VIRTUES OF CONTENTMENT (PART 5)
KEY TEXT: MATTHEW 6:19-21 KJV: "Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth... But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven... For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

One of the greatest hindrances to contentment is misplaced treasure, when the heart clings to earthly possessions rather than eternal priorities. Jesus warns us not to anchor our hearts on material wealth, which is temporary and uncertain, but to store up treasures in heaven, where nothing can corrupt or steal. COLOSSIANS 3:1-4
Contentment flows from eternal perspective. It reminds us that our true inheritance is not in this world, but in Christ. When we treasure heaven, we live free from the grip of greed and fear, and we become rich in faith, generosity, and peace. JOHN 17:16
The more our hearts are set on Christ, the less we are shaken by what we lack on earth. We learn to be stewards, not hoarders; pilgrims, not settlers. Our desires are purified, and our lives reflect kingdom values. HEBREWS 12:2
APPLICATION:
- GUARD YOUR HEART: Ask God to reveal and remove any unhealthy attachment to material things.
- INVEST IN ETERNITY: Give, serve, love, and live with heaven in view.
- SEEK FIRST THE KINGDOM: Make Christ and His righteousness your greatest pursuit. “For we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen.” – 2 CORINTHIANS 4:18
PRAYER:
Father, help me to treasure the eternal over temporary. Let my heart be set on heaven, not on earthly riches. Teach me to live with contentment, trusting in Your eternal reward. In Jesus Christ’s mighty name, Amen.
REFLECTION:
COLOSSIANS 3:2 KJV: "Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth."
