THE TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

KEY TEXT: 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 KJV: “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

TEMPLE OF GOD’S SPIRIT: We must be reminded that the day we gave our lives to Christ, our bodies became the temple of the Holy Spirit. This means our bodies now house and accommodate the Spirit of God, and we are called to use them for holy service and good works unto holiness. This truth gives us the clear understanding that we are not by ourselves in this body—we are dwelling together with the Spirit of the living God, so we are never alone. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

SIN GRIEVES THE HOLY SPIRIT: Therefore, we must not share our bodies with sin. Sin grieves the Holy Spirit. When we allow sin into our lives, it causes the Holy Spirit to withdraw from us. In the times of old, whenever the temple of God was defiled, it brought divine judgment upon the people, reminding us how serious it is to pollute what God has declared holy. Ephesians 4:30

SET APART UNTO HOLINESS: Our bodies are not meant for common or sinful use. Just as the temple in the old covenant was never used for social activities or anything that went against God’s holiness, so also we must set ourselves apart for a life of holiness. We are consecrated unto God, and He calls us to keep ourselves pure from defilement, fornication, and everything that would corrupt or pollute us. 2 Corinthians 6:17-18

PRAYER:

Lord Jesus, help me to maintain your temple so that Your Spirit will dwell in me to help me live a holy life, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

REFLECTION:

2 Corinthians 6:17-18 KJV: “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.”
