THE SETTLED DEBT OF OUR SINS

KEY TEXT: Romans 4:25 KJV: “Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.”

DEBT TO GOD: Man owed a debt to God that could never be paid, but because of God’s great love for us, Jesus took the penalty of our sins upon Himself. Just as Paul told Philemon, Christ stood before God the Father on our behalf and said, “Charge it to my account.” He paid the ransom, bore the punishment, and canceled the eternal debt with His blood. No angel in heaven, no man on earth, no multitude of good works could have paid for it—only the spotless Son of God who declared that it was finished. Philemon 1:17–19; John 19:30

THE WEIGHT OF OUR DEBT: This debt was heavy, and the weight of sin was eternal. Every act of rebellion incurred a charge, every disobedience increased the account, and the punishment was everlasting separation from God. David understood this when he cried for mercy, feeling the heavy debt of sin that separated him from God. Any true child of God must feel the gravity of sin, for to sin and feel nothing is to have a sleeping conscience. But Christ took that crushing debt and settled it forever, reconciling us to the Father. Psalm 51:1–4

THE DEBT HAS BEEN PAID: Now the debt of our sin has been overcome by the blood of Christ. The account has been cleared, and our sins (past, present, and future) are washed away by His sacrifice. What riches, sacrifice, and works of righteousness could not accomplish, Jesus has done it once and for all. His payment was more than enough. The cross has bridged the gap, silenced the accuser, and brought us everlasting peace. Isaiah 48:10; Isaiah 48:18

PRAYER:

Lord Jesus, help me live the life of holiness which You have purchased for me through the great debt You paid on the cross of Calvary. Keep me walking in the victory of Your sacrifice, and let my life reflect the price You fully paid for me. In Jesus Christ’s mighty name, Amen.

REFLECTION:

1 Corinthians 6:20 KJV: “For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”
