REIGNITE THE FIRST LOVE

KEY TEXT: Revelation 2:4-5 KJV - “Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.”

RETURN TO THE FIRST LOVE: Remember your enthusiasm from the past and do the first works. When other things take priority, the love of God in us is choked. Christ is looking for a deep, biblical, first-place love from us all. He is saying, remember that first affection, repent, and do the first works. Repenting from our lost connection with God is the call for every believer who has wandered from their first love. Revelation 2:5

HUNGER FOR THE THINGS OF GOD: When the first love is there, you’re already connected to the presence of God—you don’t have to be dragged. Fresh fellowship flows naturally, without unfounded or unaccounted excuses. The deep longing we had for Him in the beginning was not of our own making, but the work of His hand upon us. He calls our name and draws us back to those tender affections we once had for Him, stirring our hearts to pant after Him again. Psalms 42:1-2

LOVE FOR CHRIST: Love for Christ is the bedrock of our faith. It is the sincere, genuine love for Christ, the people of God, and the world. When the first love is there, the first zeal and hunger for the presence of God is there. It is that expression of the first love that is in that first faith, and our faith in Him is at work with love. Loving God is a key component to keeping faith alive. Galatians 5:6

PRAYER:

Lord Jesus, help me to rekindle the first love I had for You from the very beginning, when Your presence was my delight and Your Word was more than an ordinary book. In Jesus Christ’s mighty name, Amen.
