QUIET TIME, AN EFFECTIVE TOOL FOR SPIRITUAL GROWTH

KEY TEXT: Mark 1:35 – “And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.”

What does it mean to be quiet? It is to be quiet with little or no sound. It is to be free from all disturbances. When we talk about quiet time, we are talking about reflecting on what you have been hearing and studied and then use it to mirror your life, to see if you are living it according to the Word of God. There is no way you can pray effectively, or tarry in the presence of God, when you are not quiet in the Spirit. Psalm 131:2

Jesus Christ after doing great miracles and mighty things, departed to a solitary place and there prayed. You will be able to pray effectively, to immerse yourself in the Word of God, to know where you are missing it, when you are quiet in the Spirit. It is written, “And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.” Luke 6:12

Jesus continued all night in prayer to God. He observed that quiet time, bringing his petition before God in order to know the next course of action. Do you want to grow in grace? Do you want to grow spiritually? Do you want to be rooted and grounded in the Word of God? Observe quiet time. Psalms 1:2-3

PRAYER:

Lord Jesus Christ, I need your strength to observe my quiet time, to be quiet in the Spirit, to do less talking and more meditation, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, Amen

REFLECTION:

1 Timothy 4:15 – “Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.”

PRAYER POINTS FOR SPIRITUAL GROWTH THROUGH QUIET TIME

1. Lord Jesus Christ, grant me the grace to cultivate a consistent quiet time in Your presence, that I may know You more intimately and grow in Your Word, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.

2. My Father and my God, silence every noise and distraction that wars against my spiritual focus and communion with You; let my spirit be still to hear Your voice clearly, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.

3.My Lord and my savior, help me to value meditation on Your Word above all worldly engagements; let my mind be renewed daily by the power of Your Spirit, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.

4. Father in Heaven, as I spend time alone with You, reveal the hidden areas of my life that need transformation, and empower me to walk in obedience and holiness, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.

5. Lord Jesus Christ, let my quiet time become a source of spiritual strength, wisdom, and direction; make me fruitful and established in Your will all the days of my life, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.
