LESSONS FROM ELISHA’S DETERMINATION TO FOLLOW ELIJAH (PART 2)

KEY TEXT: 2 Kings 2:9 KJV — “And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.”

THE MOMENT OF DIVINE REWARD: Elisha’s perseverance finally brought him to the point of reward. After crossing Jordan with Elijah, the door of impartation opened. Elijah asked him, “Ask what I shall do for thee.” This divine question only comes to those who remain steadfast until the end. Many turn back before reaching their moment of blessing. Elisha’s consistent following positioned him for the double portion of the anointing. Likewise, God tests His children’s endurance before releasing their reward. Until you cross your Jordan, your mantle will not fall. (Matthew 24:13; Hebrews 10:36)

THE DOUBLE PORTION ANOINTING: Elisha’s request was bold — “Let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.” His hunger and faith moved heaven. Elijah’s mantle was a symbol of spiritual authority and power, and when it fell, Elisha took hold of it and immediately walked in the same dimension of grace. The proof of the double portion was seen when he parted the same Jordan that Elijah had divided earlier. When you endure faithfully, you inherit divine capacity. Determination always leads to empowerment. (2 Kings 2:13–14; John 14:12; Philippians 3:10)

THE MANIFESTATION OF DIVINE CONTINUITY:

The sons of the prophets who once mocked Elisha now bowed before him, acknowledging that “the spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha.” Divine reward always silences mockery. Elisha became a carrier of continuity in God’s kingdom — proof that faithfulness never goes unrewarded. Those who follow to the end become living evidence of God’s power. Your steadfast walk with God will not end in shame; it will end in glory and manifestation. (2 Kings 2:15; 1 Corinthians 15:58; Galatians 6:9)

PRAYER:

Lord Jesus Christ, help me to follow You faithfully until I receive the fullness of my divine reward. Let my life become a vessel of Your power and testimony of Your glory, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.

REFLECTION:

Hebrews 6:12 KJV — “That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.”
