KEEP YOUR FIRST LOVE FOR CHRIST UNINTERRUPTED
KEY TEXT: Revelation 2:4-5 KJV: “Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.”

THE CALL TO FIRST LOVE: The Lord Jesus Christ, in His message to the church of Ephesus, warned about leaving their first love. The first love represents the zeal, passion, and devotion believers had at the beginning of their walk with Christ. It is that burning desire to please Him above all, to pray fervently, to hunger for His Word, and to live holy. Sadly, many Christians allow the cares of life, offences, or distractions to quench that fire. Christ is calling His children back to that unbroken devotion (Jeremiah 2:2; Matthew 22:37).
THE DANGER OF INTERRUPTION: When one’s first love is interrupted, spiritual coldness sets in. Such a believer may still have the form of religion but lack the fire of intimacy with God (2 Timothy 3:5). The devil knows the power of a believer who is aflame with first love, hence he fights to distract and weary such hearts. Once first love is lost, prayer becomes mechanical, service becomes burdensome, and compromise becomes easier. That is why Jesus Christ warns, “Repent and do the first works” (Hebrews 10:35-36; Galatians 5:7).
KEEPING IT UNINTERRUPTED: To keep your first love uninterrupted, you must abide in Christ daily through prayer, study of the Word, obedience, and fellowship with the Holy Ghost (John 15:4-5). Guard your heart diligently, resisting anything that competes with your devotion to Christ (Proverbs 4:23). Above all, keep your eyes on the eternal reward, knowing that only those who endure in love to the end shall be saved (Matthew 24:12-13; Jude1:21).
PRAYER:
O Lord Jesus, help me never to lose my first love for You. Rekindle my passion and keep my devotion to You uninterrupted, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.
REFLECTION:
Jeremiah 2:2 KJV: “...Thus saith the Lord; I remember thee, the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine espousals, when thou wentest after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.”
