GOD’S DIVINE JUDGMENT (PART 4)

KEY TEXT: Revelation 20:12 - “And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.”

INTRODUCTION:

In the previous parts of this series, we have established the certainty, finality, and seriousness of God’s divine judgment. In Part 4, the focus narrows to the most critical issue of eternity—the deciding factor at the final judgment. When the books are opened before God, one book outweighs all others: the Book of Life. This message confronts the eternal consequences of where a person stands in relation to Christ and calls every soul to examine not religious activity, but redemptive reality. Eternity will not be decided by intention, affiliation, or effort, but by whether one’s name is written in the Book of Life.

THE BOOK OF LIFE: THE DECIDING FACTOR: Among all the books, one book determines eternal destiny—the Book of Life. This book does not record religious activities but redeemed lives. Revelation 20:15 –“And whosoever was not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.” A person can be active in church and still absent from the Book of Life. Only those washed in the blood of Jesus Christ have their names recorded there.

THE REALITY OF THE LAKE OF FIRE: Hell is not symbolic. It is literal, eternal, and conscious punishment for the unrepentant.

Matthew 25:46 –

“And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Hell proves God’s justice, not cruelty. It is the final destination for those who reject mercy. God does not send people to hell against their will—hell is the consequence of rejecting salvation.

THE ONLY ESCAPE FROM CONDEMNATION: The judgment seat is terrifying only for those outside Christ. For the believer, judgment has already taken place at the cross. JOHN 3:18 – “He that believeth on him is not condemned…”

Jesus Christ absorbed judgment so sinners could receive mercy. Refusing Christ means choosing to face God alone.

PRAYER:

O Lord, I acknowledge the certainty of eternal judgment. Wash me completely in the blood of Jesus Christ, keep my name permanently written in the Book of Life, and help me to live daily prepared for eternity, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.

REFLECTION:

Amos 4:12 KJV: —“Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel: and because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Israel.”

N.B: Preparation is not emotional—it is obedience, repentance, and faith.

PRAYER POINTS:

1. O Lord, keep my name written in the Book of Life and deliver me from anything that will erase my place in eternity, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.

(Revelation 3:5; Philippians 2:12)

2. Father, expose and uproot every secret sin and spiritual hypocrisy that will speak against me on the day of judgment, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen. (Luke 8:17; Psalm 90:8)

3. O God of mercy, let the blood of Jesus Christ answer for me against every accusation when the books are opened, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.

(Hebrews 12:24; Colossians 2:14)

4. Lord, grant me grace to live with eternity in view, walking in holiness, vigilance, and obedience until I stand blameless before You, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.(2 Peter 3:11–12; Jude 1:24)
