CONVICTION ALONE?: In these end times, many Christians hold the belief that if they have not personally been convicted of a certain sin or truth, then it does not apply to them. However, this mindset is dangerous, because the very preaching that came to you was meant to bring the conviction you sought. Yet, because of this belief, many have missed the voice of God (Hebrews 4:12).

THE NATURE OF THE HEART: Many Christians have come to rely solely on the conviction or leading of the heart to navigate their walk with God. But this can be fatal, because the heart often leads people into practices or doctrines that stand against the absolute truth of God. (Proverbs 14:12; Jeremiah 17:9).

WHAT TO DO: Know this: there is an absolute truth, one that is not determined by personal conviction or by how you feel God is leading you. This absolute truth is found in the holy and infallible Word of God. Chase after and seek this truth, and do not rely on the shifting leadings of the heart (John 17:17; Proverbs 28:26).

PRAYER:

Lord, give me the grace to rely on Your absolute truth — the holy and infallible Word of God. Help me to take heed to Your chastisements and instructions through Your holy servants, guided by the direction of the Holy Spirit, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.

REFLECTION:

John 17:17 KJV – “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”

PRAYER POINTS:

1. My Father and my God, deliver me from the deception of following my own heart and opinions. Help me to submit fully to the authority and truth of Your Word, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name, Amen.

2. Lord Jesus Christ, grant me spiritual discernment to recognize Your voice through the preaching and teaching of Your Word. Let me never resist divine correction or instruction, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name, Amen.

3. O Lord my God, sanctify my heart by Your truth. Let every false conviction or self-deception be uprooted, and let Your Word be the final authority over my life, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name, Amen.

4. My Father and my God, teach me to walk daily in obedience to Your Word. Let Your Spirit guide me into all truth and keep me from the destructive ways that seem right to man, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name, Amen.
