BELIEVER’S SELF-CHASTITY (PART 3)

KEY TEXT: 1 Thessalonians 4:4 KJV: “That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour.”

LIVING ABOVE FLESHLY DESIRES: The flesh will always crave what opposes the Spirit. A believer who desires self-chastity must refuse to be controlled by bodily appetites and passions. This means saying “No” to anything that stirs lust, greed, or ungodly ambition. True honour is found when a believer possesses their body in sanctification, keeping it for the Master’s use. — Galatians 5:16; Romans 13:14

FEEDING THE SPIRIT FOR STRENGTH: Self-chastity is impossible without a nourished spirit. Just as a starving man becomes weak physically, a spiritually starved believer becomes vulnerable to sin. Feeding daily on God’s Word, engaging in prayer, and fellowshipping with the saints keeps the inner man strong and alert against temptation. — Psalm 119:11; Jude 1:20-21

ETERNAL VALUE OF SELF-CHASTITY: The practice of self-chastity is not just for today’s blessings but for eternal security. Without holiness, no man shall see the Lord, and without self-control, holiness cannot be sustained. Those who live in self-chastity will hear, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant,” while the careless will face eternal regret. — Hebrews 12:14; Matthew 25:23

PRAYER:

Lord Jesus, help me to walk in the Spirit, feed my soul daily, and keep myself pure until Your return, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name, Amen.

REFLECTION:

James 1:27 KJV: “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.”
