BE YE FISHERS OF MEN

THE CALL TO FISH FOR SOULS: The Word of God tells us that when Jesus first called some of His disciples, they were fishermen — Simon Peter, Andrew, James, and John (Matthew 4:18-22). Jesus contrasted their natural occupation with a greater spiritual calling: instead of catching fish, they were now to become fishers of men. To be a fisher of men does not mean winning men to yourself, your cause, or your beliefs. Rather, it is bringing men into the family and fold of God (John 10:16).

WISDOM IN FISHING: Fishing often requires patience. It requires timing, planning, and strategic placement of where you fish. Fish have migration points where they go and where they come. In the same way, those who understand how and where to reach out to people will see a more effective harvest. Paul also demonstrated this, becoming all things to all men, that he might by all means win some to Christ (1 Corinthians 9:22).

FISH EVERYWHERE: The business of winning souls is for the wise, as the Word of God tells us (Proverbs 11:30). The Spirit guides us and imparts wisdom, giving us utterance to know what to say and when to say it (Luke 12:12). Therefore, fish for men in your vicinity. Fish for men in your place of work, and he that fishes faithfully shall at last receive a reward in God’s Kingdom (Daniel 12:3; 1 Thessalonians 2:19).

PRAYER:

Lord Jesus, give me the wisdom and guidance to be a true fisher of men, so that I may bring souls into Your fold, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.

REFLECTION:

John 10:16 KJV: “And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.”
